Stranded on the highway

Posted by seanabrady on September 23, 2005

It sounds like there are still hundreds of people stuck on the side of the highway.  The mayor of Houston just had a press conference, and they are working to get gas and other assistance to those people.  The news here is filled with images of people stuck in parking lots with no gas, dead batteries, dead cars.  They don’t have much food or water and the storm is coming.

Last night was much worse than it is now, but it is still terrible.  They managed to get a large group of volunteers together last night, and with the help of the Metro bus system, deliver water and food to people stuck on the highway.  The Texas National Guard has been driving around trying to distribute gas to those who need it.

I am certain that if we had not turned around we would have run out of gas before we got to where we needed to go.  We might have made it to San Antonio, and they do have gas there…but I am really glad we did not risk it.
